The HK416 is a gun that ascended to greatness when it took down Bin Laden back in 2011. It should come as no surprise that Hurricane Butterfly made a big splash when they announced just before SHOT Show that they were selling HK416’s in a pistol configuration. Didn’t think it was possible? Jason Wong, CEO of Hurricane Butterfly explains. “This is a semi-auto 416 pistol configuration, we found semi-auto receivers in Europe, sourced them, and assembled them into complete weapons.”
Because the weapon is now in a pistol configuration it can be imported and sold freely to any American, not just LE or military, the way the original HK416 was imported. This is great news for fans of history who want an HK that took down Bin Laden, the chance is now theirs with a small caveat. Besides being in a pistol configuration the gun has some non-HK parts since Hurricane Butterfly assembled the it. Most notably the barrel, which is made from a Lothar Walther blank, but has been treated and cut to HK specs. “Except for the barrel and the rear end it is a legit, complete HK416,” said Wong, “it’s kind of a unicorn gun that shouldn’t exist.”
If you wanna ride unicorns you’re gonna have to pay the price. Because of the type and how rare this gun is Hurricane Butterfly has put a premium on the it, with the MSRP bringing $12,500. “I get it, you can build a clone for a lot less, but it’s still not an HK,” said Wong.
